HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR! this year will be the first year chef mandy will be celebrating chinese new year without grandma sou's cooking, in her honour we have created a menu with items inspired by her, and some new favourites. the number 8 is a lucky number in chinese culture, therefore our menu will include 8 parts. as usual, we are offering an early bird special, ends feb 3! (early bird orders will receive a pound of clementines.) ordering opens feb 1!

 

with CNY, we have included an option to add on a litre of HK style milk tea $13! strong brewed black tea with evaporated milk (contains dairy). iykyk.

 

also available for add on is the Chinese New Year Box $40. includes a radish cake inspired by grandma sou's annual CNY traditions, for steaming and eating, or sliced + panfried. Also included in the box are crispy morsels of peanut puffs, and black sesame shortbread cookies.

MEAT MENU

wintermelon soup 冬瓜湯

- wintermelon, chicken broth, shiitake, pork, shrimp, egg

- grandma sou grew wintermelons annually just for soups for the family. she would hollow out the whole gourd and cook the soup inside.

 

glutinous rice stuffed wings 糯米雞

- turkey wings filled with rice, chinese sausage, dried shrimp, shiitakes, steamed, and fried  

grandma sou used to make this labour intensive dish, debone and stuff chicken wings for our large family, grandpa sou also enjoyed this dish.

 

spicy pulled chicken salad 口水雞

- crispy chili oil, noodles, sesame, cilantro

grandma sou used to make a cold sesame chicken salad, we've added a little heat to the dish.

 

braised shiitakes + pork belly 蠔油燜冬菇

- oyster sauce braised shiitake + straw mushrooms, pork belly, bok choy

 a classic on every chinese celebration table for the sou family

 

baked fish with soy sauce 焗薑蔥鱼

- a variation of steamed fish, ginger, scallion

steamed fish is a classic celebratory dish. whenever grandma sou made steamed fish, the head always went to her, she was the only person at the table who appreciated it.

 

sweet + sour shrimp tofu 蝦膠豆腐

- shrimp filled tofu pockets, sweet + sour sauce, bell peppers, pineapple

another dish inspired by a labour intensive dish grandma sou used to make, hand chopping shrimp to stuff tofu pockets, and then steamed. here, we deep fry and coated in a festive red sweet + sour sauce.

 

braised snow fungus + cabbage 雪耳菜煲

- stewed snow fungus, napa cabbage, vermicelli, egg tofu

always need more vegetables!

 

rice, pickles 白飯

- for sharing, essential for a well rounded meal

 

DESSERT glutinous rice balls 湯圓

- in ginger osmanthus syrup

grandma sou always made this dessert for special occasions, tang yuan. the round shape symbolizes family cohesion.
